Father’s day is coming and no-one loves camping as much as dad !
Here are some of the Bunyip and his friend’s favourite places to take Dad camping this Father’s Day.
North Stradbroke Island
Who doesn’t love Straddie ?
Such an iconic area of the Australian Queensland coast. In under 2 hours from Brisbane, including the beautiful 1 hour ferry ride, you’ll find yourself on the island. There is plenty to do for the entire family especially for Dad: 4WDing, beach fishing, surfing, snorkelling, scuba diving, sea kayaking, sand boarding and barefoot bowling. Lucky for Dad it’s still whale migration season and North Stradbroke Island is a great place to view the majestic animals.
There are 6 township campgrounds to choose from, where you can pitch your tent, camper or van and most have fully equipped cabins if you don’t want to put Dad to work setting up the camp !
However Dad might prefer the more man’s man type camping with no facilities just man verses the beach ! There are the foreshore campgrounds of Flinders Beach and Main Beach for that. No facilities just magnificent surfing, fishing and swimming. To these sites bring your 4WD and Dad can bring his best 4 legged friend.
Don’t forget to set Dad up with a camping permit and 4WD permits. Both can be purchased at http://www.straddiecamping.com.au/
South West of WA
If you are on the west coast of our beautiful large continent you can’t go past the south west.
- Shelly Beach, near Albany has camping right on the beach, there are only about 7 camp spots available so get in fast, it’s beautifully secluded perfect for some time out with Dad. Turn off the electronics, wake up and start fishing right away, or if Dad’s more adventures take him hang-gliding from the hills behind and land right on the beach !
What could be better ?
- Contos Campground, is a favourite for families, with camp kitchens and plenty of activities for the entire family. 4WDing, fishing, surfing, Jewel Caves and Caveworks are near by, possum watching is a popular activity for the kids and for Dad there’s wine tasting, breweries and pubs to enjoy for Fathers Day lunch and tea.
Belanglo State Forest
” Beautiful camping spot at Belanglo, our family love going and its nice and close.
Even when its been raining, awesome 4wding tracks from easy to little more difficult.”
Daley’s Clearing 2 hours south of Sydney this beautiful state forest offers everything Dad will love. You need to bring your own water and fire wood. Camping at Belanglo is the classic state forest type camping, back to nature, getting away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday life, enjoying the sounds and smells of the bush ! Daley’s Clearing is a large flat campground set amongst a pine forest and Dad can bring his best 4 legged friend. It’s a popular spot especially on holidays or special days like Fathers day so get there early as you can’t book your camping spot.
The bush is very rugged and there are lots of forestry roads and firetrails for Dad to explore.
